International Campaigns

Subtext has gone international!

And with that comes a few differences from our typical campaign set-up.

SMS is regulated on a country-to-country basis, so registering and operating your channel looks a bit different depending on which territory you are from.

In this section we’ll break down those differences and make them easy to understand!

Phone Numbers for two-way communication 📱🔄📱

If you want to text back and forth with your fans, great!

All countries require a local number for two-way SMS communication.

This means if you want to text in Australia, you’ll need an Australian number. You want to text in Germany too? No problem! We’ll add a German number to your channel as well.

Your CSM will handle all of the set-up for you and our system will automatically know who to text with which local number.

Here is a list of countries where we are currently configured to handle two-way SMS communication.

  • USA & Puerto Rico
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • UK
  • Denmark
  • Netherlands
  • Germany

Each of these countries has their own registration requirements in order to procure phone numbers in that territory. Click here to see a list of registration requirements.

Limitations on International Texting

International providers cannot guarantee delivery of MMS (multimedia messaging service) across the globe. Therefore, MMS messaging and contact cards are not available for hosts outside of the US/Puerto Rico/Canada.

But we still want ALL our hosts to be able to send media!

Here’s how you can do it:

  • Attach your media to your broadcast as you normally would, and our system will automatically convert them into wrapped media links (1GB limit).
  • These media links will play in line with the text if they are the only media in the broadcast AND the subscriber has the number saved in their phone

Geo-targeting 🌏

At the moment, Subtext can only capture zip code information in the U.S.

But, you can still find out where you audience is located!

Create some polls or questions with location keywords using our segmentation feature and you’ll be able to find out exactly whether your fans will be seeing you play live in London or Madrid!

Phone Numbers for one-way communication 📱📲

Sometimes you just want to spread the word. And we've got an answer for that too!

Alphanumeric Sender IDs ✨

An Alphanumeric Sender ID exists in place of a standard 10 digit phone number: it is a custom string (11 character max) consisting of a combination of letters and numbers that identify the sender of an SMS message.

And the best part?? They can reach your audience in over 200+ territories outside the U.S! 🌏

Alphanumeric Sender IDs (ASIDs) v. 10 digit phone numbers

  • One way communication: Though you will be able to reach an expansive audience, only outbound communication is supported with ASIDs.

  • No registration necessary: Traditional two-way SMS requires a lengthy registration process in each country. With ASIDs you can instantly expand your communication across the globe, without lead time.

  • High Message Deliverability: Rare challenges of two-way SMS messaging like carrier filtering and latency will not affect ASIDs and impact your international audiences

  • Opt-out process: Since messaging is one way with ASIDs, international audiences must opt out using a link.

How can you format your alphanumeric ID (ASID)?

ASIDs are super customizable and can contain of 11 characters from the following list, BUT must contain at least one letter.

  • Upper-case letters A - Z
  • Lower-case letters a - z
  • Numbers 0 - 9
  • Spaces
  • The following special characters can be used: +, -, _, &
